The spirits of Thedas are comparatively simplistic to what I am used to and Thedosians terror of them seems likewise... ludicrous. Where I am from, they are known collectively as Ayakashi. Some are like the spirits you are familiar with. Some are the same as birds and beasts. Others are more complicated - often indistinguishable from people with their faculties for logic and consistency ... and morality.
There is a cult that has sprung up, they — I do not know whether you are familiar with the Chant, it would have the spirits for the Maker's first children, and we His second. [ kind of a detached way to talk about the religion you're ostensibly a part of but w/e ] But this cult, it has declared Rifters to be a third. Not human, and not spirit, but perhaps,
